It's a transfer saga that just doesn't seem to go away, but it finally looks as if Leeds United's pursuit of Swansea City winger Daniel James looks to be well and truly over.

It was certainly well documented that the Whites were keen admirers of the winger throughout the entirety of the January transfer window, with Marcelo Bielsa's submitting a bid in the region of around £10million for the 21-year-old.

But it turned out to be a transfer deal that is likely to haunt Leeds fans for years to come, when in the 11th hour of the window, Swansea pulled the plug on the deal despite the youngster undergoing a medical at Elland Road.

Reports have now surfaced that the Swans are set to open talks with James ahead of a new long-term deal with the Welsh club, subsequently handing Leeds a huge blow in pursuit of the Welsh international.

With reports in the Mirror claiming that Leeds were set to go back in for James in the summer, we take a look at THREE alternatives that they should now consider after another frustrating transfer update...

Aaron Lennon

Lennon has recently been linked with a summer move to Elland Road, a place he will definitely know well.

The 31-year-old came through the youth ranks at the Yorkshire club and made over 40 appearances for the Whites, before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 2005.

He's a completely different player to James in the sense that he is much more experienced, and he could be a fantastic option for Marcelo Bielsa to have if the Whites reach the Premier League this year.

Callum O'Dowda

O'Dowda, along with James, was a reported January transfer target for the Whites, but a move failed to materialise.

However, now a move for James looks to be off, Leeds should definitely look to make a move for the Bristol City winger.

The 23-year-old has been excellent for the Robins in the Championship, and is definitely a player who deserves a chance in the top flight.

Kadeem Harris

Another player that Leeds were linked with back in November was Cardiff City's Kadeem Harris.

The 25-year-old played an integral role in the Bluebirds' promotion to the Premier League last term, but has since made just 14 appearances for Neil Warnock's men in all competitions this season.

He is currently out of contract in the summer, and could be available on a free transfer if all goes well.
