Like many other sides, Crystal Palace have had turbulent spells in and out of the Premier League and back down into the Sky Bet Championship.

However, in their third consecutive season in the Premier League, they are surely getting their status as a secure top-flight club back.

In the last ten seasons, the Eagles have spent two in the top-flight and eight in the Championship, which must surely mean that their squad could have many players of Championship quality who fail to make regular appearances for Alan Pardew's side.

To keep up with the amount of money spent in the top league of English football, Palace have had to spend a fair amount of money in recent years to get where they are today.

Notable additions such as Emmanuel Adebayor shows how Pardew is rapidly trying to turn his team into a much high-quality side.

Nevertheless, there has to be players who are just not good enough for the top level and are destined to play elsewhere.

Dwight Gayle

In 2013, Dwight Gayle signed for Palace in what would be their first season in the Premier League for multiple years. The deal was said to be a club record fee of £4.5 million with high hopes for the exciting young striker.

Most famously (or infamously depending on who you support) Gayle will also be remembered for that equalising goal he scored against Liverpool at Selhurst Park to prevent the Merseyside club winning the Premier League.

However, since then, Gayle has struggled to find his place in Pardew's side since he joined the club at the start of this season, having made only nine league appearances.

Gayle will be undoubtedly looking for first time football to try and kick-start his career back into action, and the Sky Bet Championship might just be the place for that.

Marouane Chamakh

Like Gayle, Marouane Chamakh has had limited success at Premier League level, appearing for Arsenal, West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

His free transfer to Arsenal in 2010 was understated by the fact that there was no price-tag to judge him on. Nevertheless, there was tremendous amounts of pressure - you'd expect nothing less from a club the size of Arsenal.

But, as we all learned, his form stuttered considerably throughout his 40-game spell at the North London club, where he only managed eight goals.

Similar form has continued at Palace where he has failed to make a significant impact, scoring just seven goals in fifty-nine appearances.

At the age of 32, the Frenchman will want to be finishing his career on a positive note, and not just sat on the bench. And, for regular football, he could possibly look towards the Sky Bet Championship.

Jordan Mutch

Having tried to sign him on several occasions prior to the 2015 January transfer window, Palace finally secured the signature of Jordan Mutch in January of last year for around £4.75 million.

Since then, the 24-year-old has made 24 appearance for the club, and 17 in the league so far this season.

Despite his frequent appearances in the first team, Pardew is maybe inclined to bring in a higher-quality replacement for Mutch soon, as the quality of football in the Premier League only rises.

He has failed to score for the Eagles since his move to the club, and you'd think it was only a matter of time before he was sent back to the Championship, where he performed much better for Cardiff City in years gone by.
