Coventry City comfortably exceeded expectations to finish 12th in the Championship in 2021/22, providing a platform to build on this upcoming campaign.

Mark Robins has pulled off one of the most remarkable jobs in the EFL for a long while, and the Sky Blues will be aiming to throw their names into the promotion conversation once again.

Naturally, after having such an eye-catching season, some of Coventry's most impressive players are on the radars of clubs in higher places, and that could lead to some tricky situations in the latter stages of the transfer window.

Here, we have taken a look at three transfer dealings Mark Robins should conduct between now and facing Sunderland on July 31st...

Sell Viktor Gyokeres

A controversial suggestion, but the Sky Blues will be able to recoup the largest transfer fee possible for Gyokeres in this summer transfer window, if he does not sign a new contract, which at this stage it seems likely he will not.

Coventry's recruitment has been sensational in the last few seasons and they could improve the collective by shrewdly reinvesting the hefty fee they would be set to receive for the Swede.

They may regret not selling if he looks unmotivated next season, and it is important to remember that 53% of Gyokeres' league goals last term, came in the first 11 matches of the campaign, suffering a significant drop-off in the remainder of the season.

Address the defence

Robins is likely to persist with a three at the back formation in 2022/23, after it worked so well last time around.

Therefore, with just three specialists centre backs in the squad at this stage, there is work to do.

A left sider will be required, after Jake Clarke-Salter's loan ended and he signed for Queens Park Rangers permanently this summer.

With Kyle McFadzean in the twilight of his career, at least at Championship level, a longer term successor to the 35-year-old who is able to take on some leadership responsibilities would be a sensible addition.

Utilise the loan market in attack

Coventry are in good hands if Gyokeres does leave, with Matty Godden, Martyn Waghorn, Tyler Walker and Fabio Tavares all capable of contributing in the opening few months of the season.

If a fee recouped for Gyokeres is reinvested in other areas of the squad, then Coventry could use the loan market, as they have done successfully in recent years, to replenish their attacking contingent.

Someone like Liam Delap or Folarin Balogun would be an exciting addition to play in front of the likes of Callum O'Hare and Gustavo Hamer.
