Norwich City are on the cusp of achieving a brilliant promotion back to the Premier League with just eight games left of the current season.

The Canaries currently sit top of the second-tier table, soaring four points above second-places Sheffield United and five points inside the automatic promotion places.

There have been a whole host of outstanding performances, with Teemu Pukki proving a relentless goalscorer with Emiliano Buendia and Marco Stiepermann offering him chances on a plate.

At the back, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis have been brilliant down either wing and Christoph Zimmermann has been a rock in the middle.

But it his centre-back partner, Ben Godfrey, who has been attracting attention of late.

A central-midfielder by trade, Godfrey has been used in the centre of defence for the majority of the season now, proving very useful indeed.

The 21-year-old recently emerged as a target for Premier League giants Manchester United, according to the Sun.

So what would happen if Farke and co. decide to cash in on him?

Well, here are THREE potential consequences…

Frailty

Although Timm Klose remains more than capable at the back despite his injury this season, the partnership Godfrey and Zimmermann have formed has been impressive.

Selling him could leave them very frail at the back and heading into the Premier League, that is the last thing they could do with.

Ammunition

The other way of looking at it is that it would give the Canaries some funds to play with in the summer window.

And considering Godfrey is not necessarily an out and out centre-back, bringing in somebody who knows the role better could be a smart move.

A stronger pairing

As mentioned above, Klose was the clubs first-choice centre-back heading into the season.

With Zimmerman stepping up impressively in his absence, if Godfrey were to leave, it would open the door to the two joining forces which could have tremendous consequences.
