If Leeds sell local boy Kalvin Phillips, the repercussions could go far beyond losing a key player.

Academy graduate Phillips, 23, allegedly has Premier League clubs on his tail, according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon.

The young midfielder has had a great season and is a crucial part of Bielsa's system.

Playing mainly as a holding midfielder in a 4-1-4-1 - and occasionally as a centre back in part of a back five - his strong leadership skills, tackling ability and anticipation has made him stand out as one of the league's top players.

He played 46 games all season, including cups, starting all of them. He played 31 games in defensive midfield, and 13 at centre back.

Bournemouth are apparently queuing up to sign him, say Football Insider. How much he would cost, and whether Leeds would be willing to part, remains unanswered.

No matter how important Phillips is to this side, the representation of the sale of the Leeds-born player will hit harder than losing the player himself.

We've picked three consequences which could happen from the sale of the youngster.

1. A big hole in defensive midfield

The most obvious impact is losing one of their best players - one that Bielsa has relied on as much as any other.

Phillips has suited Bielsa's aggressive style of football superbly by winning the ball back quickly for his team and also having the passing ability to start attacks.

His importance to the team is unprecedented. WhoScored has given him an average rating of 6.98, and also say that was the joint second most used player by Bielsa all season.

2. More players may think about leaving

If Phillips leaves then it could be the start of a domino effect for players leaving Elland Road.

Lots of Leeds players are hot property right now due to their successes last year, and the sale will give Bielsa a weaker mandate in trying to keep hold of his best.

For example, Kemar Roofe has been linked away with a move to Villa by the Daily Star, and Jack Clarke is wanted by Tottenham, says The Mirror.

3. Another Leeds graduate flies the nest

This would be another Leeds youth player flying the nest before they are able to reach their full potential.

Lots of graduates have left the club in recent years as they feel they can't achieve what they can with the club. Phillips, who has now racked up 141 senior appearances for Leeds.

It would be a big statement for Leeds to get promoted with the likes of Phillips and Clarke, and would also add much more money to their resale value if they were able to get these players playing well in the Premier League.

With Leeds being at their best potentially since they got relegated in 2004, they have a chance now to keep hold of their academy players and only sell them when they have to - something they've struggled to do in the past with players like Ronaldo Vieira, Lewis Cook and Sam Byram.
