Aston Villa have a lot to play for between now and the end of the season, with promotion in the Sky Bet Championship still very much up for grabs.

Steve Bruce’s side currently sit fourth in the Championship table, and although the play-offs look their most likely route back to the Premier League, all focus at Villa Park will be on the run-in.

After a consistent season, Villa will be confident of competing, which is perhaps reflected in recent transfer news.

Charlie Austin, Southampton’s leading striker, has been linked with a summer move to Villa Park, if Bruce can guide them to promotion in the coming months.

The 28-year-old could well be on his way out of Southampton if they suffer relegation from the Premier League, which could lead to Villa making a move for the striker.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the possibility of Austin arriving at Villa Park and identify THREE consequences of Aston Villa sealing a deal…

Grabban is at Villa Park on-loan from AFC Bournemouth, and although he is doing well, a move for Austin would surely mean Villa didn’t pursue a permanent deal for the 30-year-old.

With Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan on Villa’s books already, it is highly unlikely Grabban would fit.

With Davis’ opportunities already limited at Villa Park due to competition for places, Villa could move the striker out on-loan.

The 20-year-old has shown enough to suggest he has a big future at Villa Park, but Austin’s arrival would push him further out of the picture.

A loan move could be an option anyway, but Austin’s arrival could force Davis out.

Bruce has favoured a lone striker this season and has very rarely played with two in attack.

However, the addition of Austin, combined with Kodjia’s presence, could lead to Villa switching their system.

4-4-2 could be one option, whilst Bruce might also toy with the idea of switching to a 3-5-2.
