Lincoln City made it 15 matches unbeaten in League Two action last night as they held promotion rivals Mansfield to a 1-1 draw at Field Mill.

The Imps have only lost once in 2019, that coming away at Everton in the FA Cup. They're now six points clear of second placed Bury, having played a game more, but hold a ten point lead over fourth place.

With Mansfield and MK Dons set to meet on the final day, the lead in real terms is 12 points, with eight matches left.

They're looking a safe bet for promotion to League One, but as last night showed every match is a war of attrition. Mansfield took an early lead through a Krystian Pearce header, leaving the Imps to break down their hosts.

The Sky cameras watched on as a tepid first half turned into a one-sided second period with the Imps eventually getting a break through. Conrad Logan felled Harry Anderson and John Akinde popped in the resulting penalty for his 16th goal of the season.

As we enter the final eight matches of the season, here's three things we learnt from Lincoln's draw last night.

They're resilient

Going 1-0 down to your local rivals is never easy, especially after the first 45 minutes brought little joy.

The Imps looked jaded and a little off form, but they kept on fighting and battling until the end.

It's that spirit that has seen them rise up the table and stay there.

Akinde is deadly from the spot

He's languid, lumbering up to the ball with an air of nonchalance that belies his accuracy.

He's missed one penalty this season, having bagged nine of the ten he's taken.

Plenty have come under pressure too.

They're going up

From the inside looking out, Imps fans are still worried, but last night surely demonstrated that they're League One bound.

They've been top for most of the season and few sides have had the consistency and fight they've had.
