Nottingham Forest once were a giant of English football.

The club haven't been in the top flight since 1999, and they currently languish in the Championship.

Forest sit 17th in the Championship, and over the past five years, there has been no improvement.

Instead, it seems to be getting worse.

Some fans who were used to seeing their club fight it out against the likes of Liverpool, United and Arsenal are now seeing their team sit in the bottom half of the Championship.

Here's why there's been no improvement at Nottingham Forest in recent years....

Since 2014, Forest have had eight different managers- including two caretakers. The best manager they've had since 2014 in terms of win percentage has been Mark Warburton who had a 40.54% win ratio while in charge of Nottingham Forest.

Managerial change has caused a lot of unrest and has stopped Forest improving as they keep changing managers, and can't find one to stay.

All of these managers change the style of play and formations, but players can't get used to them as the manager gets sacked or leaves before they adapt to it. This all then reflects onto the pitch where performances have been extremely poor.

Following on from the managerial turmoil point, there has been too many squad re-hauls. Due to the constant managerial changes, managers change the squad drastically in the summer, get sacked then a new man comes in and changes the squad.

This is unsettling for players as they start to wonder if they'll be replaced, and how long they have left with the club. It also means it's hard for players to gel as they can't get used to each other due to the constant changes in the team.

Not only does this anger players, it angers the fans. The fans feel like it's a continuous cycle, and that there won't be any progress made.

Over the past few of seasons, Forest have signed a lot of loanees. Other teams such as Swindon, have used the loan market to their advantage, but simply put you can't build a team of loanees as we saw in the 2015-16 season.

This season, Forest signed six loanees, but in the 2015-16 season, they signed nine loanees.

The players go back to their parent club, and they need to rebuild again. This is the problem with having loads of loanees.

Nottingham Forest is a club with a lot of potential, yet over the past few years, no progress has been made. The fans want to see their club back with the big boys, but it could be a while before they see that.
