Sunderland defender Jack Baldwin has been talking up the main advantage he believes Sunderland have over their rivals this season.

Following their 1-1 draw with Burton Albion, the Black Cats moved back into the top two and now seemingly hold their fate in their own hands.

It was the former Peterborough defender who earned them that point, heading home a corner after the Brewers had taken a surprise lead. It ensured they go into the weekend's fixtures in one of the two coveted automatic promotion spots.

They've also got a game in hand over their rivals and Baldwin believes that is a huge advantage, both in terms of possible points, but also psychologically.

Whilst that may be so, the defeated EFL Trophy finalists certainly have more going for them than many of their rivals, and that extra game is only one of several reasons why they're surely favourites to join Luton Town in the Championship.

We look at three advantages Sunderland have over their rivals that Baldwin hasn't considered.

Squad

Sunderland have a strong squad, far stronger than their rivals.

Whilst they're suffering injuries, they've still got quality in abundance.

Kazaiah Sterling might be a big player for them, whilst Max Power, Dylan McGeough and Lynden Gooch can all fill in for the walking wounded.

This is where their means begin to truly pay dividends.

Experience

With the likes of Lee Cattermole, Aiden McGeady and Grant Leadbitter in their side, the Black Cats have got big game experience.

This is the period of high pressure, where mistakes can cost you a whole season's work.

Some of their rivals will have players not used to that pressure, but Sunderland have character in abundance.

Home Crowd

If they get behind their side, then home advantage has got to come into play.

There's no stadium quite like the Stadium of Light in League One and, if they can get it filled and bouncing, it will be an intimidating place for all comers, especially Portsmouth who visit before the end of the season.
