Bristol City have had a difficult week. They lost star defender Adam Webster on Saturday, suffered a 3-1 opening weekend defeat at the hand of Leeds United and then saw the Whites hijack their move for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The Robins were outclassed by Leeds at Ashton Gate, with Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford, and Jack Harrison all finding the net before Andreas Weimann scored a consolation goal.

Lee Johnson’s squad has seen some significant turnover since, with Marlon Pack and Jamie Paterson both leaving the club, and Han-Noah Massengo, Adam Nagy, Pedro Pereira and Benik Afobe all joining.

City will be hoping the additions to their squad can help them claim their first points of the season against Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Robins travel to St Andrew’s to face the Blues, who beat Brentford at Griffin Park last weekend.

So, how will the 38-year-old set-up his side to face Pep Clotet’s men?

The result was far from ideal on the opening weekend but I back Johnson to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation for the trip to Birmingham.

It was hardly a dream debut for Daniel Bentley against the Whites but he didn’t really make any mistakes and I expect him to start in goal, with Niki Maenpaa still missing due to injury.

Surprisingly, the Robins have not signed a replacement for Webster. That means after a reasonably solid performance against Leeds, academy-product Taylor Moore looks set to partner Tomas Kalas at centre-back.

I fancy Johnson to give new signing Pereira his first start of the season at right-back, with Jay Dasilva on the left.

Pack has been an excellent servant to the club but Nagy looks a ready-made replacement (and potentially improvement) for him alongside Josh Brownhill in central midfield.

I can’t see Massengo, the 18-year-old who joined from Monaco for a reported £8 million, starting but expect him to make an impact from the bench.

Ahead of them, Weimann looks likely to retain his place on the right, with Kasey Palmer in the centre and Niclas Eliasson getting the start on the left, after impressing from the bench last week.

Afobe joined in a very late deadline day deal and I don’t think Johnson will trust him to start just yet. The man who seems set to lead the line is Famara Diedhiou, who scored the only goal in City’s win at St Andrew’s last season.
