Nigel Pearson's search for a first league win as Derby County manager went on after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell.

A Scott Carson own goal and a header from Tykes defender Alfie Mawson consigned the Rams to consecutive Championship defeats and means that Nigel Pearson's only competitive win as Derby boss was a tight 1-0 win over Grimsby in the cup.

A positive in the Championship is that if you do lose at the weekend, you have the opportunity to redeem yourself almost immediately due to the regular midweek games.

With no new signings as of yet, the Rams are going to have to find a solution within their expensively-built squad as they look to add an extra dimension to their attack.

There's no doubt that Derby have the talent in their squad, but they have to find a solution to their recent struggles and Nigel Pearson must implement some much-needed confidence into his side.

Here are THREE changes Derby County must make to the starting line-up to face Preston...

Will Hughes for Jeff Hendrick

Republic of Ireland international Hendrick left the pitch injured in just the 12th minute and was replaced by Will Hughes, and the England under-21 international should keep his place at Deepdale.

If Hendrick, as expected, misses the game then the impressive 21-year-old should take his place. His ability to open up a defence with a single pass could make him crucial in a Rams side that lacked creativity at Oakwell.

Hughes has a lot of potential so if he can remain injury free, he will be an important player for Nigel Pearson this season.

Johnny Russell for Nick Blackman

Since his January move to the iPro Stadium, Nick Blackman has looked a shadow of the player that was in fantastic form at the start of last season with Reading.

Blackman failed to really impress again at Oakwell and, as a result, he should be dropped when Nigel Pearson's side head to Preston.

In his place should be Russell who, although he is inconsistent, has the ability to win a game with one terrific shot from distance or a cross for the head of a team mate.

Marcus Olsson for Craig Forsyth

The Swedish left-back has had some injury problems which kept him out of the opening three Derby games, as well as some pre-season friendlies, but if he is fit then he should come in for Forsyth.

The 28-year-old travelled with his team mates to Yorkshire on Saturday but was not included in the match squad, presumably as a precaution.

However, if Olsson is fit on Tuesday night, then there is no doubt that he should come in and replace the 27-year-old Scot.
