Bristol Rovers have started the current season in much the same vein as they finished the last; as a midtable side flirting with the bottom half.

Graham Coughlan's side are currently 13th in the table, but only have two sides below them with fewer points from seven matches. They're sat on eight points with six teams below them having games in hand.

Their away form has been terrible, they've played three and lost three this season, but are unbeaten at home. This weekend they travel to Lincoln City, a side with a 100% home record.

They might be in with a chance of grabbing a win at Sincil Bank though. Their hosts are currently without a manager and will be hoping to get their new era off to a good start following Danny Cowley's move to Huddersfield Town.

That could mean they're there for the taking and if so, it might be wise for Coughlan to consider changes. After all, his side could well take advantage of an exposed and vulnerable Imps side.

A win might just be the springboard they need to power up the table, so with that in mind, we think these changes might be in order.

3-5-2

Away from home, the Gas have been particularly defensive. They played five at the back against Burton Albion, and set up in a 3-4-1-2 formation against Plymouth in the EFL Cup.

If they're going to improve their away form, they have to be more exciting. They've yet to score away from home and perhaps going 3-5-2, using the width and attacking Lincoln, would bring them a little more joy.

After all, if you sit off this Lincoln City team, they're likely to punish you.

Tyler Smith

Coughlan has been putting faith in Tom Nichols and whilst he's brought a couple of goals this season, he didn't look effective at the weekend as they drew 3-3 at home with Accrington.

Tyler Smith impressed in his cameo against Tranmere, as well as bagging twice against Cheltenham in the EFL Cup. The Sheffield United man surely has to be considered against a somewhat slow-looking centre back pairing of Michael Bostwick and Jason Shackell.

Anssi Jaakkola

The Finnish stopper began the season as first-choice, but was recently dropped in favour of Jordi van Stappershoef.

However, the Dutch keeper has shipped four goals in two matches, including three against Stanley last weekend. He's surely going to be a candidate to drop back to the bench this weekend.

Jaakkola has already kept three clean sheets and after shipping six goals away from home this season, the Gas need a stable pair of hands in the sticks.
