Middlesbrough are not likely to stand in Marvin Johnson’s way in the transfer window if a club looks to secure the 28-year-old’s service on a permanent basis.

It was Garry Monk who opted to sign Johnson for Boro in the summer of 2017, with the now Birmingham City boss taking a punt on the Oxford winger.

However, his spell at Boro hasn’t gone as planned, with Johnson now finding himself out on loan with Sheffield United.

According to the Sheffield Star, Boro will not play hardball if the Blades want to sign Johnson permanently.

However, it’s unclear if Chris Wilder plans to do that, with the winger managing just seven Championship appearances this season and only one start.

So, could another Championship club come in and take a chance on the winger in the future?

Here at FLW, we take a look at THREE who should be on red alert following this latest update…

The Championship strugglers need reinforcements in the New Year, with Paul Lambert surely looking to add a fresh look to the squad he inherited from Paul Hurst.

Johnson would be a good addition and add another option for Lambert in the final third.

Of course, if Ipswich fail in the quest for survival, Johnson is a player we know can cut it in League One.

Millwall are another team struggling in the Championship and the January window is shaping up into a big month for them.

Neil Harris likes to play with width but he’s lacking the players to get his side playing exactly how he’d like.

In Harris’ 4-4-2 system Johnson could really kick-on at Championship level.

Of course, Birmingham’s precarious financial situation could be a problem, but Garry Monk will surely want to add nonetheless.

He signed Johnson at Middlesbrough and clearly admirers the player.

Jacques Maghoma has had many injury problems so adding some depth on the left would be no bad thing for the play-off chasing Blues.
