Leeds captain Sol Bamba caught the country by surprise on Thursday when the club announced that his contract had been terminated due to personal reasons.

No one expected it, especially so soon after the transfer window shutting the day before. He'll definitely receive plenty of interest from around the Championship, with clubs looking to bring in a great player and only having to finance his wages.

The 31-year old appeared in both the EFL Cup victories, and the two opening defeats to QPR and Birmingham, before he was left on the bench for the next two matches and wasn't even named in the squad for the defeat to Nottingham Forest.

His physicality is a trait that makes him a very hard defender for any attacker in the league to come up against, and there will be plenty of managers who will want to use him in order to further their push up the league table.

Here, in the opinion of FootballLeagueWorld's Ryan Evans, are THREE Championship clubs that must look to sign Sol Bamba...

Birmingham

After finishing in 10th place last season, Gary Rowett will be targeting a push for the play-offs come May.

He's managed to keep roughly the same squad from last season, but still finds himself short in the centre-back position.

The ex-Burton boss has brought in full backs Ryan Shotton and Rhoys Wiggins, but only has Jonathan Spector, Michael Morrison and Paul Robinson as natural centre-backs.

So far, Birmingham have been pretty solid at the back, with exception of the 3-1 defeat to Wolves.

However, the opportunity to sign a good player outside of the transfer window to give the club more options in that position is one that shouldn't pass him by.

Blackburn

Currently sat bottom of the Championship, Rovers are suffering the aftermath of losing one of the best centre-back pairings from last season in Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy.

They left for Newcastle and Brighton respectively, and the club have brought in Gordan Greer from the Seagulls, Tom Hoban on loan from Watford and Derrick Williams from Bristol City, but none as good as their two from the last campaign.

That has shown as they've shed 12 goals in just five games, the joint most in the league.

A centre-back probably isn't the only reinforcements they need, but someone with experience in English football is hard to find on the free agent marketplace, and Owen Coyle should be looking at someone with his quality to send them back up the league table.

However, there'll be plenty of interest in Bamba, so he may prefer a team in a more lofty position than the Ewood Park club.

Bristol City

One of the surprise packages in the Championship so far, Bristol City are looking good to be in the top half of the table when it's finalised in May.

They currently sit sixth, just inside the play-offs, and whilst their defence has been decent, it's more a case of numbers rather than quality.

They only have Aden Flint and new signing Hordur Magnusson in the centre-back position after losing Adam El-Abd, Karleigh Osborne and Derrick Williams, so an extra player in that position will be useful for Lee Johnson to have, especially in this long Championship season, and especially someone of this quality.
