Burton Albion defied the odds last season with most people tipping them for relegation from League One, they stunned everyone by getting automatically promoted.

With most people predicting a struggle in the Championship they will be keen to prove everyone wrong again.

Burton completed back to back promotions last season as the club continued its meteoric rise from non-league football.

They spent no money bringing in free transfers but started the season very strongly and it looked like they would run away with the League 1 title. When everything was going well it seemed to all hit the rocks at the end of March as Burton went 6 games without a win and the chasing pack closed in.

But 2 straight wins and a closing day draw secured promotion for them narrowly above Walsall even though Wigan did snatch the title from them.

Their operating budget will be minuscule in comparison to some sides in the Championship next season like Newcastle, but Burton have shown they can rise over adversity in the past.

Here are THREE Burton Albion Players you need to watch out for next season.....

Stuart Beavon

The man they need to perform on the goals front is 32-year-old veteran Stuart Beavon, who has scored 12 goals in 68 games for The Brewers.

He made an invaluable contribution of 7 goals last season and 5 goals the previous one as they achieved back to back promotions, and Beavon won Player of the Season two years running.

It was well deserved with his hard work and tireless running very appreciated by fans, and Burton do not have an outstanding goal scorer, and if they do not bring one in then Beavon will be crucial again next year.

Jon McLaughlin

The Burton Albion goalkeeper has been between the sticks for both promotion winning seasons and his contributions have been vital in both achievements.

He left Bradford on a sour note but it has gone well for him at Burton.

McLaughlin can take a lot of credit for this pulling off some excellent saves and resulted in him coming second in Player of the Season, and winning Player's Player of the Year.

With Burton likely to face much better attacks next season, McLaughlin will have to be at the top of his game to keep Burton up this season.

John Mousinho

The English Joao Moutinho in my eyes!

Undoubtedly the 30-year-old captain will be absolutely crucial to whether his side stays up or not.

He was voted the 10th best player in League 1 which was higher than any of his team mates and is the heart of the midfield.

He is a creative player linking up with the forwards well and is finally making a step up to the Championship after years of success in League 1, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on.
