Bristol City surprised many people when they face flying out of the blocks and were threatening to compete for a play-off spot after an impressive start to the 2016/17 season.

However, things have gone from good to very, very drastically bad quite quickly for Lee Johnson's men.

A downturn in form was worsened recently as Bristol City have lost their last eight consecutive league matches - which is a new record losing streak for the club.

The mood is downbeat and the Robins have plummeted down the table at uncontrollable speed; they now sit just two points off a relegation spot and a fight for survival looks on the cards.

Johnson has been active in the January window to try to stop the rot and inspire some victories but his efforts have been fruitless thus far.

To generate some more funds he might need to get rid of some fringe players and here are 3 suggestions.

Ivan Lucic

After the arrival of German goalkeeper Fabian Giefer, Ivan Lucic has been shoved down to third choice stopper.

The former Bayern Munich 'keeper needs a loan spell to develop his game.

Korey Smith

Korey Smith has been unlucky with injuries of late but Bristol City might have lost patience as they look for consistency in the middle.

The 25-year-old has played just shy of 100 games for the Robins but his time at Ashton Gate might be up.

Scott Golbourne

Scott Golbourne has been in and out of the Bristol City XI this season but Johnson might get him out to make room for another defender.

Joe Bryan is preferred at left back so Golbourne could be seen as surplus to requirements if we are being very strict.
