Bristol City just missed out on the play-offs in the Championship last season, but after a busy summer transfer window, the Robins have made a positive start to their new campaign.

After losing 3-1 to Leeds United in their opening game of the season, Lee Johnson's side are unbeaten in their last five league games and go into the first intentional break of the season in fifth place in the Championship table.

Bristol City will be looking to continue their momentum against Stoke City after the international break, but they are now in a two-week period before their next game.

Some players will be pleased with how they have performed so far this season, while others will feel that they have a point to prove going into the two-week break.

Here are three Bristol City players who should demand more game time after the international break...

Callum O'Dowda

Callum O'Dowda was an important player for Bristol City in the Championship last season before his injury and he played a key role in the Robins' push for the play-offs.

However, the 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact so far this season. His performance in their opening game of the season against Leeds United was disappointing and resulted in him being dropped from the starting line-up.

Since then, O'Dowda has featured just twice in the Championship and both of his appearances have been from the bench.

The midfielder set up the equaliser for Tommy Rowe against Middlesbrough at the weekend and will be determined to start more games after the break.

Sammie Szmodics

Sammie Szmodics joined Bristol City from Colchester United this summer. The 23-year-old midfielder had a very good pre-season and impressed fans.

However, he's struggled to make an impact for the first team at Ashton Gate since the start of the season. His only appearance so far this campaign was against Queens Park Rangers in the Carabao Cup, where he played 72 minutes.

Szmodics has been named on the bench for all six of Bristol City's games in the Championship so far and will be determined to start games in the league after the international break.

He now has an opportunity to work hard and impress Johnson during the two-week break ahead of the game against Stoke.

Ashley Williams

Ashley Williams joined Bristol City on a free transfer last month, after he was released by Everton. The 35-year-old will feel that he has a point to prove, after he struggled at times while on loan at Stoke last season.

He hasn't been included in the squad at Bristol City so far this season, which is understandable given that he didn't have a proper pre-season, but he wouldn't have signed for the Robins unless he expected to play games.

Given that the injuries Bristol City currently have to their defence, Williams will be hoping to force his way into the starting line-up. He now has a valuable opportunity in the international break to work on his fitness and get himself up to speed.
