Brighton and Hove Albion are flying high in the Championship and victory over Sheffield Wednesday tonight would see them leapfrog Newcastle United to top of the league.

The Seagulls have built up a strong lead over third placed Leeds and will look to extend that to maintain a cushion within the automatic promotion spots.

After the heartbreak of last year - where they missed out on automatic promotion by goal difference and lost in the play-offs - Brighton will be determined to go one better this year.

They have returned stronger and Chris Hughton has built a very talented squad of reliable players, who are playing as a team and picking up wins.

However, there are also fringe players who need to be allowed to leave.

January is a time for the peripheral players to force exits for their own sake in a bid to resurrect their career.

Here are 3 that are better off leaving Brighton this month.

Richie Towell

Irishman Richie Towell was fantastic for Dundalk but has not made the desired impact since switching to Brighton in November 2015.

Towell has never played a league match for Brighton and has only played 3 games in total.

The 25-year-old featured twice for the under-23 side in the Checkatrade Trophy and scored in both matches so he might be suited to a League One club.

Rohan Ince

Rohan Ince burst onto the scene as a promising youngster at Brighton and has played over 70 times in the league fot their first team.

However, his progress has slowed right down and an unsuccessful loan spell at Fulham last year shows that the defensive midfielder is no longer the player that he was built up to be.

With just four cup matches under his belt this year, the 24-year-old needs to further his career elsewhere.

Uwe Hunemeier

The German defender Uwe Hunemeier is an experienced member of the side but has not featured in the league this season.

The success of Dunk and Duffy has meant that the other centre backs on Brighton's books have not had a look in.

The 31-year-old probably needs to leave to find playing time elsewhere.
