Having finished in an underwhelming 15th position in the Championship last month, Blackburn Rovers now face an uphill challenge to keep hold of their star player, Bradley Dack, this summer.

According to the Sun, the midfielder is subject of considerable interest from Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion who are both looking to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

Somewhat of a cult hero at Ewood Park amongst the club's supporters, Dack enjoyed a superb 2018/19 campaign as he fired in 15 goals whilst also providing seven assists for his team-mates.

Given the 25-year-old's importance to Blackburn, boss Tony Mowbray will be reluctant to let him leave yet he may eventually have to yield if his talisman expresses a desire to call time on his two-year stay in Lancashire.

Although there have been no official offers for Dack as of yet, Rovers simply have to consider lining up an adequate replacement for him as a failure to do so could lead to a season of struggle.

Here's three potential targets that they should be considering if the former Gillingham star does move on to pastures new...

Herbie Kane

An immensely gifted player, Herbie Kane was utterly fantastic whilst on loan at Doncaster Rovers as he helped the club reach the play-offs in League One by providing 10 goal contributions during the regular season.

Although he was powerless to prevent his side from crashing out of the competition on penalties to Charlton Athletic, he did manage to showcase what he was capable of in the second leg as he set up Tommy Rowe with an exquisite back heel.

Having now returned to his parent club Liverpool, it may be worth Blackburn taking a punt on Kane as he clearly has all the ingredients needed to thrive in the second tier.

Mason Mount

One of Derby County's most successful loan signings in recent years, Mason Mount provided numerous moments of quality for Frank Lampard's side as they finished sixth in the Championship.

Seemingly set to become a real star in the future,  it is fair to say that the Chelsea academy product will be out of Blackburn's price range if they were looking to sign him on a permanent deal.

Yet with the likes of Ross Barkley, Jorginho and N'Golo Kante all ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, Mount may be tempted to join Rovers on a loan deal next season as it would give him a better chance of playing first-team football.

Marcus Maddison

A real live-wire of a footballer, Marcus Maddison could prove to be a worthy replacement for Dack if he is able to make the step up in level from League One to the Championship.

Exceptional for Peterborough United last season, the attacking midfielder was directly involved in a staggering total of 33 goals in all competitions for Darren Ferguson's side and would be a coup for Blackburn if they could somehow secure his services.

However, if Rovers do end up considering a swoop for Maddison, they will have to act fast as given his wide array of talents, it would not be at all surprising if he becomes a target for a number of Championship clubs this summer.
