Garry Monk is doing a magnificent job with Birmingham City, with relegation fears eased since his appointment as manager.  

Results have improved under Monk, who has managed to bring a real feel good factor back to St Andrew’s after disappointing spells under Harry Redknapp and Steve Cotterill.

Of course, relegation could yet hit Birmingham, but since Monk’s arrival, the Blues are seemingly on the rise and looking like an outfit capable of finally moving forwards.

The summer will be big for Birmingham and Monk, who will want to make some significant changes to the playing squad at St Andrew’s ahead of next season.

Monk might be able to guide Birmingham to safety this year, but big changes will be needed ahead of next season if the Blues are to compete higher up the Championship table.

Ultimately, there are members of the squad at St Andrew’s that aren’t good enough and Monk needs to make some changes.

If Birmingham survive, Monk can’t be sentimental and stick with the players who have guided the club to safety, he must look at their contribution over the whole season.

Jota has been excellent since Monk’s arrival, producing the type of performances that made him such a favourite at Brentford.

Next year, Monk needs to build his side around Jota and find a system that suits his style and gets the best out of him.
