Paul Heckingbottom's career as Leeds United may have got off to a bumpy start, but the former Barnsley boss will have the summer to stamp his mark on the squad and make this Whites side his own.

'Hecky' took over from Dane Thomas Christiansen who had led the Yorkshire side to what can only be described as a train wreck of a season, with the promotion hopefuls in contention for a Premier League spot for just a handful of weeks.

An overhaul of the squad is needed as well as several other brave decisions for Hecky to truly turn the club around, with this three sure to keep the young boss awake at night in the coming weeks and months...

Liam Cooper hasn't shown enough to suggest he is worthy of the captain's armband, with several other prominent members of the squad sure to represent better leaders than the Scot.

The Whites have often lacked leadership on the field and endured a spell when discipline was an issue, something the captain must take accountancy for alongside his manager.

If Pontus Jansson stays he is the ideal candidate to replace Cooper, if not Heckingbottom has a decision to make and one that he must handle with extreme caution.

We all know how players react when the captaincy is changed in Football Manager...

Lasogga is a top striker who would have scored more goals this season had the club consistently played to a high standard, but a deal for the German would blow a whole in Hecky's summer budget with Hamburg expected to demand a sizeable fee as well as the consideration of the 26-year-old's wage expectations.

Into double figure in just over twenty starts, Lasogga has proven that he is more than adept to succeed at this level but it must be felt that he would accept an offer elsewhere should the money and club be right.

A luxury signing for the club, Hecky is better off spending his war chest elsewhere.

Would it be a travesty if the academy graduate began the season between the sticks?

He has performed well since usurping summer signing Felix Wiedwald and although another goalkeeper is required when the window opens due to Andy Lonergan's imminent departure, Peacock-Farrell should get the nod to start.

With a ready-made shot stopper from the youth set-up ready and waiting, there are other areas of the squad in need of attention and as long as third-choice is secured then the goalkeeping situation at Elland Road will be healthy.

The Whites could have their number one for the next fifteen years in the youngster, Hecky should take a gamble on him becoming a legend.
