Blackburn Rovers ended their six-game winless run thanks to two late goals against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

After picking up a much-needed victory last time out, Tony Mowbray now has the task of preparing his side for a tough away game at Elland Road.

As Mowbray prepares for the trip to Leeds, he will no doubt have in the back of his mind that he may be forced into making a change to his starting XI.

On Monday, it was reported that forward Sam Gallagher was having his fitness monitored ahead of Rovers’ trip across the Pennines after picking up a knock in the victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Although reportedly not an immediate concern for Mowbray, he will no doubt have a contingency plan in mind as he looks to end Leeds’ winning run at Elland Road.

Here are three alternatives the Rovers boss should consider if he is forced into that change…

Danny Graham

Graham replaced Gallagher on Saturday and he could be Mowbray’s first choice to replace again on Saturday should the latter miss out.

His introduction on Saturday was Graham’s ninth from the bench this term and will be hoping to secure a fifth league start against Leeds on Saturday.

Although the former Swansea man only has one league goal so far this season, he has a wealth of experience and did score 15 league goals for Rovers last season.

His experience and ability to score goals may be the key factors why Graham could lead the line in West Yorkshire.

John Buckley

Midfielder John Buckley came off the bench to score Saturday’s winner, in his seventh substitute appearance this term.

Mowbray could opt to push Bradley Dack into the top two with Adam Armstrong and fill the void left by Dack in midfield with Buckley.

The 19-year old is clearly rated by the club, having made two appearances for them last term and signing a long-term contract in March 2019.

After proving the difference in Saturday’s win, Mowbray opt to reward Buckley with his first start for the club.

Bradley Johnson

Johnson is no stranger to Elland Road having made 119 appearances for the club between 2008 and 2011.

At 32-years old Johnson has amassed 222 Championship appearances, scoring 35 goals in the process.

The last couple of seasons, Johnson has adapted a more defensive role in the central of midfielder and started Rovers’ first seven games this season.

Rovers’ last two games have seen Johnson been an unused substitute but Mowbray could call on the midfielder when Blackburn visit his former side.

With Leeds’ offensive threat, Mowbray could opt to go with Adam Armstrong as a solo front-man with Johnson coming in for Gallagher to add an extra body in midfield.

Leeds boast the best defensive record in the whole EFL and if Rovers are to get something, it may be through a focus on shutting their opponents out and hitting them on the break.
