Birmingham City's inconsistent start to the season continued last weekend as the fell to an unfortunate defeat at home to Fulham.

The loss was Blues' second in two matches after they fell to a 4-2 defeat in Cardiff prior to that and boss Pep Clotet will be frustrated by the fact his team have had 41 shots on goal in the last two matches with only two goals to show for their efforts.

With the international break this weekend, the Spaniard will have time to assess the start to the season and will be looking for his team to put together a good run of form on their return to action against Huddersfield next weekend.

Here are THREE dilemmas that will be running through Clotet's mind this weekend...

Inconsistency

With just one draw so far this season, Birmingham's inconsistency is clear to see and it will leave Clotet wondering what he can do to make sure they pick up positive results more frequently.

It's the sort of form which has seen them hold their place in the middle of the table, but without ever threatening to break into the play-offs, despite showing glimpses of their best quality.

Before their recent losses, Blues picked up two important wins at home to Blackburn and Luton respectively, however, the failure to capitalise on these victories has highlighted their difficulty in finding a steady run of form in the league this season.

How to solve defensive lapses

Having conceded 21 and scored 16 this season, Clotet's side have found it hard to setup defensively and have conceded 3 goals on four occasions in all competitions this season.

Birmingham have shown an ability to keep clean sheets keeping just four in total this season. They have also gone on to win every match they have kept a clean sheet in which could be key to the team moving forward.

No standout goalscorer

With nine different goalscorers this season, there has been no player who has cemented their place as Birmingham's talisman this season.

In 16 appearances so far, Lukas Jutkiewicz is the top scorer with four goals and defender Kristian Pedersent is a close second with three.

The Blues have failed to score in six fixtures this season and they need to develop a more ruthless edge pretty quickly this season.
