The League One season came to and end and saw Burton Albion snatch the second automatic promotion place ahead of Walsall, and join a rampant Wigan side in making it into the top 2.

The play-offs will be contested by Walsall, Barnsley, Bradford, and a rejuvenated Millwall side, with any of the four clubs involved as likely to run out winners as the others.

However for all the success of the top 6, there are some clubs in League One who have simply not been at the races, and fell well short of any sort of pre season expectations.

While teams like Gillingham and Southend performed beyond what was expected, many fans were left to see their respective clubs simply not deliver on what was expected.

With this in mind, FLW have identified THREE League One clubs who have underachieved during the 2015/16 season......

Sheffield United

The obvious place to start really, but nobody can deny that the Blades have failed to live up any sort of expectation levels this season.

United finished down in 11th, their lowest placing since 1983, and many fans are furious with the way things have gone on and off the pitch during the campaign.

The Blades have everything in place, a good ground, fanatic support, and an excellent academy, but on the pitch, the playing 11 have let them down too many times.

It is expected to be a summer of massive change in Sheffield, with many players expected to come and go as the summer progresses.

Swindon Town

Last season's play-off finalists ended up finishing this season all the way down in 16th, despite possessing the leagues most prolific goalscorer among their ranks.

A summer of change appears to have not gone well for the Robins, and on-field displays seemed to have reflected this over the course of the season.

It looked at one point that Swindon were in serious danger of going down, and if not for Ajose's goals and decent run of form since Christmas, then it could well have been far worse for them.

They will be hoping for better next season that is for sure.

Peterborough United

Another team who seem to always be challenging for the top 6 in League One, this season it just did not happen for the Posh.

The sale of Connor Washington may not have helped matters, but expectation within the club and beyond is that they make a good account of themselves in a push for the top 6 play off spots.

This season that has not happened, and despite having a squad filled with players good enough for most League One clubs, things have just fell into place as expected.

They finished 11 points off the top 6 this time around, and ambitious chairman Darragh MacAnthony knows this is not acceptable.

He is likely to back the club in the summer window, in the hope of reaching the Championship over the course of the next 2 seasons.
