It has hardly been a season of highs for Sheffield United, with a mid-table finish on the cards and not many positives to take from the season at all, many fans cannot wait for it to come to an end.

With manager Nigel Adkins now clinging on to his job, it will be interesting to see whether he gets the time to build a squad over the summer which he himself believes will be capable of challenging higher up the table.

However, as with all seasons in football, there has been some highlights to take away for fans, whether it be the emergence of a player, or a certain result of performance.

With that thought in mind, we at FLW have taken a look back through the season at some of the highlights from Bramall Lane.

Here are THREE of the best moments for Sheffield United this season.......

The emergence of youth

Blades fans can at least rest in the knowledge that the academy is still producing the goods for their team, as Louis Reed, Dom Calvert-Lewin, and Ben Whiteman have all broke into the first team in the last 12 months.

Add to that Graham Kelly making the bench alongside David Brooks, and the future may look bright.

Harrison McGahey has got a place back in the team of late and is still 21, while Che Adams at 19 looks a class act.

If they can build around this group of players and add the right experience, then maybe next season things may well improve.

1-0 win at Doncaster Rovers

In a game where away fans travel in mass, a win was always going to mean a lot to the supporters at the Keepmoat stadium.

The Blades came away 1-0 winners from the game, with Che Adams notching the winner.

On paper, it looks like a game the Blades should have won, and they did, at least finally giving the fans something to celebrate in what has been a grim season.

More of this will be needed next season if they are mount any sort of promotion challenge.

Spirited display at Old Trafford

It might say a lot about the season that United have had, that I have chosen a defeat as highlight, but the game at Old Trafford was of some relief at least for Blades fans.

The team put in an excellent performance of guts and determination, and were only undone by a last minute penalty by Wayne Rooney when Dean Hammond swiped Memphis Depay's legs.

It should have been a catalyst for future excellent displays and given the team confidence, but it didn't really have any effect, and Uniteds performances in League One continued to be poor.
