Having secured a second-place finish in League One last month, preparations are now well underway at Barnsley for the upcoming Championship campaign in August.

Whereas Daniel Stendel will be aiming to bolster his squad during the transfer window, the German could also benefit from giving some of the club's academy products over the coming seasons.

With the likes of Mason Holgate, John Stones and Jacob Brown all rising through the ranks in recent years, it is clear that Oakwell is a great hub for young talent and therefore it would not be at all surprising if the next generation of prospects end up following in the footsteps of this particular trio.

Keeping this in mind, here are three wonderkids who we think have the credentials needed to break into the first-team in the future...

Mateo Arambaru

Signed in January from French side Le Touquet ACFCO, Mateo Arambaru has spent the last few months playing for Barnsley's under-23 side as he continues to adapt to life in England.

A lively centre-forward, the Urugyuan will be aiming to make his professional debut next season and could be given the chance to do that if he continues to impress at youth level for the Tykes over the coming months.

Whereas it would something incredibly special to displace the deadly duo of Kieffer Moore and Cauley Woodrow, there is no reason why he cannot force himself into contention to become a useful impact substitute for Barnsley.

Romal Palmer

Having spent the second half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan at National League North side Darlington, Romal Palmer may be in line for a call-up to the starting eleven due to his outstanding level of versatility.

Capable of playing in several different midfield positions, the 20-year-old is highly thought of at Oakwell and could become a star in the future if he continues his current upwards career trajectory.

Sam Fielding

A prodigious young talent, Sam Fielding made his professional bow in 2016 whilst at York City in the National League yet has failed to break into Barnsley's team since joining the club two years ago.

However, having been a regular fixture for the under-23's last season, it is surely only a matter of time before the 19-year-old is brought into the fray by Stendel.

Formerly a central-midfielder, Fielding has all the credentials needed to thrive in the Tykes' possession-based system as he is the latest in a new generation of English central defenders who are extremely confident with the ball at their feet.
