It's not been the start that many Barnsley supporters would have hoped for in the Championship this season.

Their promotion from League One under the guidance of Daniel Stendel will feel like a distant memory to plenty of the Oakwell faithful.

Stendel has since parted company with the Tykes after a poor start to their league campaign this term, which saw him just win one game, which came against Fulham on the opening day of the season.

But Barnsley now find themselves bottom of the Championship table, and the club's supporters will be fearing an immediate relegation straight back into League One.

Adam Murray is currently in charge of the club, and they have seen an improvement in results in recent weeks which will be pleasing to see.

But they simply have to address a number of problems as soon as possible, otherwise they'll find themselves in the third tier by the end of this year's campaign.

We look at THREE problems that Barnsley must address at the earliest of opportunities.

Find a permanent manager ASAP

Although Adam Murray hasn't done much wrong in his spell in charge of Barnsley, they need a manager that has experience of managing in the Championship.

The Tykes still aren't in a good position in the second tier, and you do get the feeling that a manager with experience at this level could get the best out of this squad and lead them out of the bottom three with some new additions.

It's a big risk to leave Murray in charge of a team that are struggling, especially when there are managers available out there that will feel as though they can take the challenge of helping Barnsley survive in the Championship this season.

Sign some experienced players in the transfer window

One of the main concerns that supporters would have been fearing is the lack of experience in Barnsley's squad heading into the Championship.

The young players currently at the club may have been good enough to get promoted out of League One, but the Championship is a completely different challenge - which is evident based off their slow start to this year's campaign.

The January transfer window will make or break their season, and it's important that fresh and experienced faces are added to the squad to help aid their fight against relegation.

Experienced additions could also play their part in helping the club's younger players develop at this level, which is exactly that the manager will want.

Keep hold of their key players in January

Even though it's been a season to forget so far for the Oakwell faithful, there have been some rare bright sparks in this year's league campaign.

Cauley Woodrow has stood out above the rest so far this season, and the former Fulham striker already has five goals to his name in total, which makes for good reading.

Whoever is in charge of the Tykes in the January transfer window has to do everything they can to keep players like Woodrow and Alex Mowatt with the club for the remainder of the season, otherwise they'll almost certainly be facing relegation into League One.

It would show a real lack of ambition by Barnsley if they were to cash in on their key players in the January transfer window.
