West Brom may have enjoyed a fantastic season so far but boss Slaven Bilic will be demanding more and he will still want to strengthen his squad in January.

Despite the attacking football the team are playing, and the many goals they are scoring, the poor form of strikers Kenneth Zohore and Charlie Austin will be a concern. Hal Robson-Kanu has done well as a sub but fails to convince from the off.

Therefore, bringing in a number nine may be a priority in the New Year and it's no surprise to see Albion have been linked with Dwight Gayle after he scored 24 goals for the Baggies last season.

However, Chronicle Live suggested that whilst West Brom are keen on the 29-year-old, Newcastle are unlikely to sell.

If that's the case, we look at THREE backup options the Championship leaders have to consider...

Matej Vydra

The Burnley man has had an unsuccessful spell with the Baggies in the past but that was in the Premier League.

At this level, Vydra has proven himself to be lethal time and time again. As well as that, he should suit the stylish football that Bilic demands and could link up extremely well with the likes of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana.

Lyle Taylor

The 29-year-old is Charlton's talisman, with his goals inspiring them to promotion last season and he scored five in six this season before injury hit.

He should recover by January though and with his contract at The Valley expiring in the summer, Albion may see Taylor as a real bargain that will help them over the line.

Lawrence Shankland

Alternatively, Albion could take a punt on Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland.

The Scotland international has been ruthless this season, grabbing 17 goals in 13 games in the Scottish Championship.

Of course, the standard he is currently playing in is a concern but the ex-Ayr man could thrive in this attacking side that do create chances and is another who could be a bargain.
