Aston Villa have endured some radical changes since last year's embarrassing relegation from the Premier League including multiple changes in management and an all-important change in ownership.

Villa spent big in the summer to try and get back to the Premier League spending huge money on the likes of Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack over the course of the transfer window.

Whilst the attack is performing a lot better, the defence was woeful as ever under Roberto Di Matteo and Villa won just once in their opening 12 games before the Italian was sacked.

Experienced manager Steve Bruce was brought in coming off the back of getting Hull promoted last season and has won 2 of his opening 3 games with the 2-1 win at Reading their first away this year.

They look far better at the back under Bruce and they are spoilt for options up front with Jordan Ayew, Rudy Gestede, Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack all options.

Still, their huge expenditure over the summer doesn't look like reaping instant rewards, indicative of the kind of silly money available even to second-tier teams these days.

With that in mind here are 3 Villa players (using Transfermarktwhose value may surprise you.

Jack Grealish - £3.8 million

grealish

Grealish is seen as one of the best young players in the Football League, despite the dodgy attitude he seems to have.

He is cherished by Villa and tipped to achieve big things in the game at club and international level for England.

He has 2 goals in 5 games this season and has the ability to change games on his own and as soon as he sorts his attitude out he can tear the league apart.

Also, the valuation for young English players is usually huge so just under £4 million is tiny for Grealish.

Ashley Westwood - £3.4 million

Westwood has made over 100 appearances in the Premier League and Championship for Villa despite heavy criticism.

He has been well favoured by the managers, though Bruce has dropped him to the bench due to his poor form in recent years.

Westwood has been useless and fans would like to see him sold and chances given to over talents in midfield.

Even the rather moderate valuation is too high for a player who looks out of his depth.

Jordan Amavi

Amavi was signed from French club Nice last summer and has been seen as one of their better buys, with the 22-year-old showing promise on the left flank.

Still, a devastating ACL injury at this time last year has seen him miss months for Villa and fans haven't seen him justify his valuation.

Potentially the key to fixing their defensive woes, Villa fans will be keen to see why Amavi is rated so highly by neutrals and pundits.
