Steve McLaren will want to make several additions to his QPR squad ahead of the new season as he looks to make his mark on his new side.

The ex-England manager was a surprise replacement for Ian Holloway last month and will hope to conclude several deals in the coming weeks.

One area that certainly needs improvement is up front, with only Matt Smith hitting double figures in goals last season and he managed just 11.

Therefore, it's clear they need different options up top and they have been linked with Derby striker Chris Martin, a player McLaren knows well from his time at Pride Park.

Yet, the Scotland international managed just two goals in 33 games at Derby and Reading last season which is a major worry.

That followed a season at Fulham prior to that where he didn't really excel either.

Given that, we look at three better options for McLaren to consider...

The Brighton striker is down the pecking order for the Premier League side and with new signings expected he will be available to leave.

Hemed has good movement and a fine all-round game but more importantly he has scored goals at this level so would be a smart signing at a reasonable fee.

If the R's are looking for a younger option, then the Southampton man could be a great signing.

He has had decent loan spells in the Championship but is getting better. He offers more than just goals and could fulfil his potential if given a regular run at Loftus Road.

The former Huddersfield striker would be a real statement signing and could form a superb partnership with Smith.

He has real pace, great movement and is cool in front of goal. Burnley would command a decent fee but the R's should be looking for quality over quantity this summer and Wells would seriously improve them.
