It promises to be a very busy end to the window for Middlesbrough as new boss Jonathan Woodgate looks to add to his squad ahead of the new season.

And, one area the rookie boss is desperate to strengthen is at right-back, a position that has been something of a problem this pre-season, with midfielder Jonny Howson having to fill in on occasions.

Boro had targeted Charlton's Anfernee Dijksteel and Football Insider have claimed that the Addicks have rejected a bid from their fellow Championship side for the 22-year-old.

Whilst a deal could still be done on that front as the player has just a year left on his contract, Lee Bowyer is keen to keep Dijksteel, so the Teesside outfit may be forced to look elsewhere.

Here we look at THREE alternatives Woodgate must consider...

Moritz Bauer

Last season was extremely forgetful for Bauer and he will want to leave Stoke this summer, with the Potters wanting the player to move on as well.

Even though he hasn't featured much in the past year, the former Rubin Kazan man arrived with a good reputation and actually did okay in the Premier League.

So, the quality is clearly there and Boro might be the ideal place for the 27-year-old to get his career back on track.

Dimitri Cavare

The new Boro boss will try to implement an attacking style of play and adventurous full-backs are crucial to that.

Therefore, Barnsley's Cavare would be an ideal fit as the 24-year-old loves to get forward and is a powerful option down the flank.

Whilst the Tykes would be reluctant to sell an important player, they have shown over previous windows that they will cash in for the right price.

Dujon Sterling

The Chelsea youngster was expected to join QPR however that move now appears to be off, giving Boro a chance to jump in.

Again, the teenager is exactly the sort of full-back that Woodgate wants as he loves to get forward and has a lot of energy to support in attack.

A successful loan spell with Coventry City highlighted the ability that Sterling has and he will feel he is ready to make the step up now.
