After yet another defeat at the weekend, it's fair to say that Leeds United really do need to strengthen this transfer window if they are to gain promotion to the Premier League this season.

The Whites succumbed to their third defeat in four games at the weekend with a 2-1 loss to Stoke City, after Norwich City closed the gap to just one point on the league leaders after their victory over Birmingham on Friday night.

Marcelo Bielsa has already started to bolster his squad with the signing of goalkeeper Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid last week, but you feel that there is still much more work to be done outfield, with midfield an area that should be looked out.

The Whites are need of another playmaker after the departure of Samu Saiz to Getafe last month, and have recently been linked with a move to sign former Newcastle United man Medhi Abeid. The 26-year old, who can play in central midfield or out wide, has featured 16 times for Dijon in Ligue 1 this term, but is out of contract at the end of the season.

His time in England is one to forget, having made just 13 appearances in the Premier League during a four-year stay at St. James' Park, and with Leeds' recruitment policy needing to spot on this month, we take a look at THREE Medhi Abeid alternatives that Bielsa must consider instead...

Alan Browne

Browne is probably one of the most unsung heroes in the Championship, and is having a magnificent season for Preston North End.

The 23-year old has scored nine goals and produced four assists for Alex Neil's men, who have endured a tough season overall, but are starting to now pick up.

The Irish midfielder has made over 180 appearances for North End and clearly has a lot of quality at this level, and potentially beyond. He'd fit in perfectly next to Pablo Hernandez.

Alex Mowatt

Perhaps a slightly controversial one from a Leeds perspective, but you can't deny that Mowatt is having a fantastic season at Barnsley this term.

The 23-year old came through the ranks at Elland Road and made over 120 appearances for the Whites, before sealing a move to Oakwell in January 2017.

He has since become one of the Tykes' best players this season, and has been the creative cog in Daniel Stendel's men's push up the League One table, scoring four goals and producing six assists.

Perhaps a reunion should definitely be on the cards, when you look at the season he's had thus far.

Nick Powell

Powell could be the perfect signing for Leeds.

He is impressing once again for Wigan Athletic, having scored four goals and producing four assists for the Latics this season, after scoring 15 goals in 45 games last term as well.

His contract is up at the end of this season at the DW Stadium, and with the likes of Rangers and Celtic both reportedly after his signature, a massive club like Leeds could definitely lure him away.
