Pontus Jansson could be ruled out of Saturdayâs clash with Bristol City, although the Leeds United defenderâs setback isnât thought to be a serious one.
Leeds have been sweating over Janssonâs availability for almost a week now, with the 27-year-old forced to drop out of Swedenâs squad during the international break.
According to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Jansson might not be fit enough to face the Robins at Elland Road this weekend, although the reliable journalist offered more positive news that the injury wasnât serious.
However, Marcelo Bielsa will have a big selection headache if Jansson isnât available this coming weekend, with Liam Cooper left as Leedsâ only senior option at centre-back.
It has been Bielsaâs choice to have a trimmed squad this season, and now, he will be looking for a new option at the heart of defence.
Here at FLW, we take a look at THREE Jansson alternatives he must considerâ¦
This feels like the natural option, with Shaughnessy playing centre-back regularly under Thomas Christiansen last season.
Shaughnessy has been back with the under-23s this season, but with the injury situation at Elland Road, his chance seems just around the corner.
Phillips has played as the third centre-back on occasion this season, but Bielsa might move him into a deeper position alongside Cooper if Jansson is out.
Of course, that would leave Leeds short in midfield, but Adam Forshaw could well drop back into Phillipsâ deeper role.
Itâs something for Bielsa to consider.
Halme is part of Leedsâ under-23 setup, with the 20-year-old still waiting for a first-team opportunity.
Injuries have hampered his development so far, but he could be handed a chance in Janssonâs absence.
It would be a risk, but Bielsa hasnât been afraid to turn to his 23s this season.
