Cardiff City have been fairly inactive in the transfer market this summer compared to their Championship rivals, after only making four signings since the start of the summer.

Frederic Gounongbe, Jazz Richards, Kenneth Zohore and Lex Immers have all made switches to the Cardiff City stadium so far, but there is still plenty of room for improvement in the squad.

The Bluebirds have high ambitions to make their awaited return back to the top-flight after just missing out on a play-off spot last season.

However, with the Championship becoming more competitive every year and in particular this season, the club need to splash the cash a bit more.

There is no doubt that the club has money in the bank, with Malaysian owner Vincent Tan spending at least £30 million during Cardiff’s pre-season while they were in the Premier League.

There is still plenty of time till the end of the summer transfer window, but to the relief of the Cardiff fans, Paul Trollope has recently stated that the club are still on the lookout for additions to the squad.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies THREE additions to the squad that will complete Paul Trollope’s side…

James Wilson

The young Manchester United striker lost his squad number to Marcus Rashford this week that indicates that he will not be part of Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Also first team opportunities will become more difficult in the Premier League side due to the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It seems plausible that Cardiff could offer the talented forward an escape route out of Old Trafford, who significantly impressed during his time at Brighton and Hove Albion last season – netting 5 times in 25 appearances.

At the age of just 20 years old, Cardiff could nurture his development into a top-class striker and a loan deal could certainly benefit both parties.

David Cotterill

Cotterill has been on the Cardiff’s radar for some time, and now could be the time where the Bluebirds need him most.

Paul Trollope will be aware of Cotterill during his coaching spell with Wales’ international team and the Cardiff boss is an admirer of the Birmingham midfielder.

Cotterill has a £1.1 million release cause in his contract that could tempt the Bluebirds to activate this.

Frazier Campbell

Fraizer Campbell’s time at Crystal Palace looks to be over and a return to the capital city of Wales on a loan deal could be on the cards.

The 28-year-old striker had a successful spell with the Bluebirds during their Championship title winning season – netting 7 goals in 12 appearances in a January move from Sunderland.

Campbell is a fan favourite at Cardiff, and with the striker not even guaranteed a place on the bench, he could be a valued member of a Cardiff side, who would solve their goal scoring problem.
