Leeds United are looking to put a disappointing 2017/18 campaign behind them, with rebuilding at Elland Road already well underway.

Paul Heckingbottom led Leeds to a 13th place finish in the Championship last season, despite many at Elland Road expecting far more from the season.

The Whites are already looking towards the summer, with Abel Hernandez the man they are looking to sign to solve their goalscoring problems.

The 27-year-old looks set to leave Hull City on a free this summer, with Leeds in the hunt to sign him.

Hernandez has scored 39 goals during a four-year stay at Hull, but will be attracting interest from elsewhere.

It is far from certain that Leeds will be signing Hernandez, with not many expecting the Whites to seal a deal for the Uruguayan.

With that in mind, here is a look at THREE alternatives Leeds could turn to this summer…

McBurnie impressed on-loan at Barnsley in the Championship last season, scoring nine goals.

Swansea might be keen to keep McBurnie around in the Championship next season, but Leeds could well swoop if they miss out on Hernandez.

The Scot is still raw, but could potentially score plenty of goals in the Championship.

Marriott bagged over 30 goals for Peterborough last season, but will come at a cost this summer.

There is also risk at bringing in a striker from the lower leagues, but Marriott deserves a chance in the Championship.

He should at least be an alternative Leeds consider.

Depending on Newcastle United’s summer, Leeds could potentially tempt Gayle away from St James’ Park.

Hernandez is a high-profile target, so if Leeds miss out, they might have to go big elsewhere.

Moving for Gayle would be a real statement.
