Jos Luhukay has had a tough introduction to life in the Sky Bet Championship, with Sheffield Wednesday enduring a disappointing campaign.

The Owls currently sit 16th in the Championship table, having picked up just 37 points from their opening 33 fixtures of the campaign.

Luhukay has just one Championship victory to his name, with Wednesday failing to build on that during the week, when they suffered another disappointing defeat to Millwall at the Den.

Millwall came from behind, with goals from Steve Morison and Lee Gregory handing the Lions a 2-1 victory over their South Yorkshire opponents.

This weekend, Luhukay will be looking to guide Wednesday back to winning ways, but faces a difficult task against Aston Villa, who find themselves in the hunt for automatic promotion this season.

Injuries have played a huge part in Wednesday’s failings this season, with a number of key players still on the sidelines.

With that in mind, we take a look at the starting XI we believe Luhukay should select at Hillsborough this weekend…

In Keiren Westwood’s absence, Wildsmith has been very good and should continue this weekend.

Venancio has been a man Luhukay has put a lot of faith in over recent weeks, with injuries piling up against the Owls.

He should continue this weekend.

Loovens has a wealth of experience, and with Tom Lees and Joost van Aken on the sidelines, his role in this XI is vital.

A surprise omission at Millwall, but Pudil should return this weekend as a third centre-back.

Hunt has nailed down the right wing-back spot in recent weeks, with Luhukay clearly a fan.

Clare was another surprise omission at Millwall, and with a very good Villa side visiting Hillsborough this weekend, Luhukay will be tempted to flood the midfield.

Pelupessy was on the scoresheet at Millwall on Tuesday, and should continue in a midfield role this weekend.

Reach was rested on Tuesday, but Luhukay must recall him this weekend.

The £3.6m-rated midfielder has been Wednesday most impressive performer this season.

Fox completes the midfield unit, and will be handed a difficult task on Saturday as he faces up with Robert Snodgrass.

Nuhiu has been in impressive form since Luhukay’s appointment, stepping up to the mark in the absence of some key players.

Deserving of a recall.

Luhukay’s call to not field a striker at Millwall was a bizarre one, and he won’t make that mistake again.

Joao should partner Nuhiu.
