Sunderland fans must be hoping that Saturday afternoon’s astonishing comeback against Bristol City is a long overdue sign that the club now have a squad of players with the willingness to fight to the death for each other.
There is no doubt that quality is still lacking in certain areas but an unflinching fighting spirit might just be enough to see them end the season outside the dreaded relegation drop zone.
There is still plenty of work to be done, as Sunderland are still second bottom of the Championship, three points away from safety but there is now hope that Chris Coleman will keep the club in the second tier.
While it remains to be seen which division the Black Cats will be playing their football in next season, one player we at FLW feel they can upgrade on is Lee Cattermole.
The former Middlesbrough man has been at the club for a number of years and his limitations have been obvious for a fair while.
We’ve taken a closer look at two men that Sunderland could get in the summer who would be an upgrade on Cattermole.
