Derby County’s start to the new campaign has been largely indifferent, with the Rams lying in a disappointing 15th place following their opening ten games of the new campaign.

Gary Rowett’s men have failed to find any consistency in their game, and despite only losing three of their league fixtures so far this season, have only picked up three wins in what is a worrying return for such a talented squad.

The season is early, and Derby are likely to begin to pick up results as they strive for a place in the top six, but Rowett may look to the winter transfer window to bolster his squad ahead of what is set to be a difficult second half of the season for the men from Pride Park.

Old faces could leave, replaced by fresh talent, and these are just two of the deals that could be in the pipeline in the East Midlands in the coming months.

Out: Ikechi Anya

Anya has made just one substitute appearance for the Rams this season, and with both Marcus Olsson and Craig Forsyth ahead of him at left back, it doesn’t appear the Scottish international is getting much luck further up the field either.

Tom Lawrence, Matej Vydra and Andreas Weimann appeared to be the preferred options in the wide areas, and Anya certainly looks to be surplus to requirements at the club.

The 29-year-old should certainly consider some form of move away from the club in January to ensure he begins to receive consistent playing time at this stage of his career, and Rowett should certainly consider cashing in on a player whose value is decreasing each week.

£3.5 million rated Anya has been a loyal servant for the Rams since making the move from Watford in 2016, but it looks like his time at Pride Park is quickly coming to an end.

In: Jodi Jones

Some Derby fans expressed their disappointment at losing out to Brentford in the race for League Two starlet Ollie Watkins in the summer, and will hope their side are not pipped to the post again in pursuit of another hot prospect from the fourth tier.

Coventry City’s Jodi Jones is one of the best youngsters in the Football League, with the 19-year-old looking a class above his peers in League Two.

It appears to be only a matter of time before he is snapped up by a club higher up the football pyramid, and Rowett should ensure that he is at the front of the queue for the impressive youngster.

With four goals and three assists to his name already this season from the wing, Jones looks the real deal, and would add a great deal of quality to the squad at Pride Park.

Rowett has some work to do in January if he is to turn the Rams into playoff contenders, and should certainly consider a swoop for the impressive Jones, whilst some could get the chop as the wage bill at the club us trimmed in the process.
