Derby County fans are once again hoping to see their side compete for promotion next season, after another year of disappointment.

However, there is a sense of renewed optimism around the club following the arrival of former Rams player Gary Rowett as new manager. Rowett has already brought in a couple of solid signings in Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom, and has shown he isn't afraid to put his own stamp on things in allowing Will Hughes to depart for Watford.

Gary Rowett has admitted changes are needed, stating that he expects to make a few more signings, as well as sell some players too. One position that many Rams fans feel needs strengthening is on the wing. Abdoul Camara departed the club earlier this month, and other wide options Johnny Russell, Nick Blackman and Ikechi Anya have been inconsistent in their performances.

A wide player that could be a decent addition to Derby's ranks is Everton man Aiden McGeady, who transfermarkt.com value at £3.4m. The 31-year-old is out of favour at Goodison Park, having not played a Premier League game for the Toffees since May 2015.

McGeady spent 2016/17 on loan at Preston North End, playing 34 league matches for Simon Grayson's side. The Irishman impressed while at Deepdale, contributing 8 goals and 9 assists as Preston comfortably finished mid-table in the Championship.

Derby are in need of a skilful winger, who is able to get past defenders and create chances, and McGeady offers just that. And due to his lack of game time at Everton, the Republic of Ireland international may come at a cheaper price, or could be available for loan.
