Nottingham Forest have kicked off their preparations for the 2017/18 Championship campaign, having recently confirmed the shrewd signing of former Hibernian striker Jason Cummings.

The 21-year-old netted a total of 55 goals in 114 appearances for the Scottish outfit, and is a fantastic coup for Mark Warburton and Forest.

The City Ground faithful can go into the new season full of optimism under Warburton as well as being under new ownership, and the Reds will be targeting a playoff push for sure.

Recruitment is vitally important for Forest's progress under the former Brentford and Rangers boss next term, and if they are to secure promotion to the top flight, then they need to get rid of the deadwood that massively underperformed as Forest narrowly avoided the drop last term.

There is one player who Warburton should definitely look to sign in the summer if the Reds are to be a success next term, and that player is Everton winger Aiden McGeady, who is valued at a price of £3.4million on Transfermarkt.com.

The Republic of Ireland international was unbelievable for Preston North End last season on loan from the Toffees, and the Lilywhites will undoubtedly look to re-sign the winger on a permanent basis this summer.

The 31-year-old netted 8 times in 34 games for the Deepdale side, whilst also providing numerous assists as North End narrowly missed out on a Championship Play-Off place.

Playing regularly appeared to help McGeady rekindle some of his best form from his days at Celtic and Spartak Moscow, typified when he was awarded the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for February after scoring three goals and providing four assists for Simon Grayson's men.

His trickery and class on the ball was influential for North End last term, and despite being 31 years of age, he still has the quality to tear Championship defences apart.

Forest have lacked firepower on the wing since Oliver Burke's departure last summer, and although the Reds look desperately close to signing Blackburn Rovers winger Connor Mahoney, McGeady is a player that Mark Warburton needs to approach in the summer.

So...what do you think Forest fans? Should Warburton make a last-ditch attempt to sign Aiden McGeady? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
