This weekend the Championship resumes having taken a two-week break to accommodate the UEFA Nations League fixtures.

The interval came after a pulsating month of second-tier action and all that comes to a head this weekend when the league resumes.

The fortnight away from competitive domestic action has given all the clubs in the division the chance to assess their start to the campaign, and pinpoint areas that need improvement heading into the next batch of fixtures.

Jos Luhukay has had two weeks to work with his troops in order to keep them in form heading into this weekend’s visit of Middlesbrough to Hillsborough.

Having had the break, the Owls boss will have a selection dilemma on his hands as to how he sets his side out when the Championship campaign resumes on Friday evening.

With that said here is the Sheffield Wednesday XI we expect Luhukay to field from the start this weekend when they face Middlesbrough.

A Sheffield Wednesday ever-present this season, Cameron Dawson has been impressive in goal for the Owls this term.

Dawson will be in goal this weekend hoping to keep his first clean sheet of the campaign at the 13th attempt.

Having played in the last four matches for Sheffield Wednesday, Michael Hector will make it five consecutive starts this weekend and look to make it a prolonged period in the side having played well in the last four games.

Sheffield Wednesday’s captain has been an ever-present playing in every minute of every game this term.

He has been one of the standout performers for Jos Luhukay’s side, and it is expected that he once again lines up from the start this weekend.

Having re-established himself in the starting XI at Sheffield Wednesday, Daniel Pudil is expected to add to his seven appearances this weekend against Middlesbrough.

The 27-year-old has made eight appearances for Sheffield Wednesday this term and has started all but one.

It is fully expected that the midfielder will retain his place in the starting XI this weekend when they face Middlesbrough.

One of Sheffield Wednesday’s star performers this season.

The 25-year-old was a late sub in the win over Bristol City but having had two weeks off; the Dutchman is set to start this weekend.

The 28-year-old has been one of the Owls’ standout performers this year and has struck up a solid partnership with Joey Pelupessy.

Scoring twice and registering one assist, it is expected Barry Bannan starts this weekend.

The 20-year-old defender will again be deployed in a wing-back role down the left-hand side and will be expected to add to his nine Championship appearances this year when the league resumes this weekend.

Having picked up the league’s Goal of the Month award for September, Adam Reach has benefitted from playing in a more advanced role, and it is expected he will continue in the attack on the right-hand side this weekend.

With Fernando Forestieri out with a hamstring injury, Lucas Joao will move to a wider position, and that will allow Steven Fletcher to retain his place as the central striker in Sheffield Wednesday's attack.

Steven Fletcher is the alternative to Lucas Joao, but with the Portuguese striker having notched more goals this term, it is fully expected that the 25-year-old starts this weekend in the absence of Fernando Forestieri.
