Stoke City conceded 52 goals in the Championship last season and manager Nathan Jones is thought to be keen on strengthening his defensive options in the transfer market this summer.

The Stoke Sentinel reported recently that Stoke are interested in signing Everton centre-back Mathew Pennington, who impressed in the Championship while on loan at Ipswich Town last season.

The Daily Mail are also reporting that Stoke are interested in the experienced Phil Jagielka, after the defender announced he is leaving Everton.

With two new centre-backs potentially on the way, Stoke defender Bruno Martins Indi may feel that his place in the starting XI is under threat.

The 27-year-old is an experienced defender and was an important player for the Potters in the Championship last season, but he may be about to lose his place in the side.

So, with some potential new signings on the way, is Martins Indi's position at Stoke under threat? We take a look at some of his stats from last season to decide:

Martins Indi scored one goal in 37 Championship appearances for Stoke City last season, but his defensive stats are what is more important.

The defender averaged 1.2 tackles per game and this is quite low for a central defender. However, his other stats suggest that he is quite good at dealing with balls into the box, as he made an average of 3.3 clearances per match and also won 2.2 aerial duels per game.

His passing stats are okay, but there is plenty of room for improvement. He averaged 42.1 passes per game, with a pass success rate of 79.5%. This is not too bad for a defender, but he will be hoping to do better next season.

Martins Indi is an experienced defender and his stats certainly suggest that he could be an important player for Stoke in the Championship next season.

If Stoke are able to secure the signings of Pennington and Jagielka, then he might not get into the starting XI every week, but judging by these stats from last season, he is still good enough at this level and would still be an important player for Jones to have in his squad.
