Birmingham City might not be out of the woods right now in terms of the relegation fight but you sense that they are on the way.

It looks as though Sunderland and Burton Albion are as good as down and only Barnsley can get out of the bottom three at this stage in the Championship season.

With that said, then, the Blues have a decent gap and some momentum which is more than can be said for Reading who are also still well in the scrap.

It could be the case, then, that the Blues will be a Championship side next season and Garry Monk will be looking to get himself a squad capable of challenging higher up the league over the summer.

With that in mind, let's take a look at four potential transfer developments that would excite fans of the West Midlands side:

Deadwood is something that Birmingham have a bit of and Garry Monk will be looking to sort that in the summer.

It's not the most exciting sounding development on the face of it but it could lead to more exciting news with it freeing up space and resources for players to come in and improve the side.

The Blues could be aggressive in the window.

Adams is a top player and signed a long-term deal last year but it might be wise to try and sweeten the deal as clubs are surely going to feel as though they can swoop after a tough campaign for the men from St. Andrew's.

On form, Adams is one of the best players at the club and can change games with a flash of brilliance so the Blues need to keep him.

Kieftenbeld looked nailed on to be leaving not too long ago but he's since signed a new deal and Monk will surely be aiming to keep him past this summer.

Teams might still look to prise him away despite his new deal and so the Blues need to keep him in the squad and turn down any offers.

£3.15m-rated Bartley would be a key man for any side in the Championship and Monk knows him well from the season before this when Leeds came close to a play-off place.

He was a top player at centre-half at Elland Road and with him still not playing at Swansea he'd surely be the kind of signing the Blues could pull off and profit from.
