Fulham snatched a last-gasp winner at Deepdale this weekend, keeping the Cottagers in the hunt for a Premier League spot.

A brace from on-loan Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic earned them the points after a brave resistance by the home side.

Mitrovic has been in incredible form, scoring seven in his previous five matches after a January move to Craven Cottage.

With Fulham now unbeaten in eleven, his goals look like the final component needed to mount a serious assault on the top two.

They're five points behind Cardiff, but they don't face any of the top nine clubs in their final nine games.

As for Mitrovic, he's been almost unplayable and Fulham defender Denis Odoi believes he has the secret.

"I play against him in training and I have my way of defending against him," Odoi told Get West London.

"I don't think you need to have too much contact with him because if you stick against him he's just going to use you as a training pole. You just need to keep your distance.”

He also confirmed that Mitrovic was the one type of player that promotion hopefuls Fulham didn't have in their squad.

"He's physically strong with the defender at his back and I think first half it was difficult for him because the two centre backs were playing really well. I know him from Belgium and in the 18-yard box he is just lethal. It's the type of striker we didn't have yet."

Mitrovic joined Newcastle United from Anderlecht for £13m, but he struggled to make an impact there in the early part of this season, linking up with Fulham in January to work with fellow Serbian, manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

The Verdict

Odoi might think he has the right approach to halting Mitrovic, but Championship defences are terrified of the on loan striker.

He nodded the seventh goal of his eight-game Fulham career against Preston to snatch all three points, putting a seven-point gap between them and Derby County.

It looks to be a four horse race for the two automatic promotion spots and with Mitrovic firing on all cylinders, you'd be a fool to bet against Fulham.
