West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon has made it clear that he wants to join Newcastle United permanently in the summer after an enjoyable loan spell at St James’ Park.

Newcastle moved to sign Rondon on a loan deal back in the summer, with Dwight Gayle heading in the opposite direction to The Hawthorns on the same deal.

Rondon, 29, has recently reiterated his desire to make the switch to the North East a permanent one, telling the Chronicle: “They know what I want and what my family want.

"I have spoken with them and made it clear. If there is an opportunity for me to be here - I'll stay here 100%.”

In 23 Premier League appearances this season, Rondon has scored seven goals and registered four assists, with his form helping pull Rafa Benitez’s side clear of a relegation battle in the top-flight.

The man who headed in the other direction to West Brom, Gayle, has scored 16 goals in 28 Championship appearances, whilst he’s also registered two assists.

Despite the 28-year-old’s inclusion on Friday night at Leeds, West Brom weren’t able to prevent themselves from slipping to a second successive defeat, with Darren Moore’s side losing 4-0.

The Verdict

So far this season you’d say that this transfer has worked out well for all parties involved.

Rondon’s impact in Newcastle has been good, as has Gayle’s in the Midlands. So, you’d expect the clubs involved to try and reach an agreement in the summer.

However, with still plenty to play for, neither should be looking beyond the remaining fixtures this season.
