Wout Weghorst is set to complete a move to Besiktas from Burnley in the next two to three days, according to the Turkish club's president Ahmet Nur Cebi.

The forward will join Besiktas on loan after expressing a desire to leave the Clarets earlier this month.

Drafted in as a replacement for Chris Wood following the New Zealand international's switch to Newcastle United, Weghorst would have been hoping to help Burnley avoid relegation last season.

However, the 29-year-old only managed to show glimpses of his ability in the top-flight as he scored twice in 20 appearances in the top-flight.

With Burnley now preparing for life in the Championship, they may need to draft in a replacement for Weghorst when he does depart.

The Clarets bolstered their attacking options last weekend by securing the services of Scott Twine on a permanent deal from Milton Keynes Dons.

Making reference to Weghorst, Cebi has admitted that he believes that a deal will be finalised this week.

Speaking to Turkish outlet Cumhuriyet Gazetesi, Cebi said: "I don't think it will take too long.

"It should be finished in 2-3 days.

"His decision seems positive, we are currently dealing with his club."

The Verdict

Although Weghorst may have gone on to thrive in the Championship, Burnley have made the right decision by sanctioning a loan move for him as he clearly doesn't want to be at the club.

Given that the forward's contract at Turf Moor is set to run until 2025, the Clarets will be hoping that Weghorst goes on to impress in Turkey as this will increase his valuation ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Whereas Jay Rodriguez and Ashley Barnes will both be confident in their ability to lead the line for Burnley next season due to the fact they have delivered the goods at this level in the past, manager Vincent Kompany will need to draft in another striker to provide competition for this duo.

By getting his recruitment spot-on in the coming weeks, Kompany could potentially go on to guide his new side to a positive start to the new term.
