Tonight sees the first Steel City derby of the season as Sheffield Wednesday travel the short distance to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United.

Jos Luhukay’s men have won once in six matches, losing their last four fixtures in a row and have slid down the table and currently occupy 17th place.

The Blades could go back to the top of the division for at least until Saturday evening should they inflict another defeat on a horribly out of form Owls side.

Being that the Wednesday are away, Luhukay could opt for a change in formation to sit in and counter-attack their hosts and move away from the 4-4-2 played in last weekend’s heavy defeat away to Norwich.

The Owls will be expected to match their promotion challenging counterparts from the off this evening and a change to 3-4-3 could be used as we look at the Sheffield Wednesday XI that Luhukay needs to apply to beat the Blades tonight.

A Sheffield Wednesday ever-present this term, he will once again be in goal looking to make his first clean sheet of the season - and what a time it would be to make it.

The Wednesday captain will know what this fixture is all about and with him the side, their chances of winning go up ten-fold.

It will be a massive night for him and every other Owl involved.

Bizarrely dropped in the Norwich defeat after being voted the club’s player of the month.

Sheffield Wednesday have every hope of winning if he is back in the side after his odd omission last week.

Fit-again and ready to play a part in the Steel City derby, the left of a back three was the position Daniel Pudil was in when Wednesday were bang in form earlier in the campaign.

Played at right-back last week, he was on the right of midfield when Wednesday were on form only a few short weeks ago.

Jos Luhukay should revert him to that role to get the best out of him.

The Dutchman has been a solid performer for Sheffield Wednesday this term and is at home in the middle of the pitch with Barry Bannan alongside him.

The potent paring need to be on the top of their game if the owls are to win tonight.

Without a doubt, the club’s best performer this season and he will be vital if Sheffield Wednesday have any hope of winning this match.

His partnership with Joey Pelupessy has been a breath of fresh air this term, but they need to rediscover their form tonight.

A player who can anywhere from left-midfield to centre-back, Jordan Thorniley was on the left of midfield earlier in the season when he was on form and in a winning team with Sheffield Wednesday.

Jos Luhukay needs to restore him to the side and in the same position as earlier in the season when he was at his most effective.

On the right of a three-man attack, Adam Reach is at his best, and having been moved to the left of midfield in a 4-4-2, his proficiency has decreased.

Moving back to a front three with Reach on the right is what is best for the team and the individual ahead of tonight’s game.

His recent form has seen him recalled to the Scotland national team for the upcoming international fixtures next week.

Leading the line as the central striker worked earlier in the season and now would be the perfect time for it to work once more.

Matt Penny will play anywhere on the left, and he was at his best at the top end of the pitch in a front three.

Jos Luhukay needs to revert to the same system that worked for Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season and needs to stop tinkering with a working formula.

Matt Penney needs to be on the left of a triple threat if Wednesday want to win this evening.
