Queens Park Rangers’ fans will recall the name Stephane Mbia from their 2012/13 Premier League season, but what’s he up to now?

Mbia, now 33-years-old, is a Cameroonian midfielder who’s sole spell in England was with QPR in 2012.

Capped 68 by Cameroon and at one time the captain of his national side, Mbia began his footballing career with French side Rennes.

He made his debut in the 2005/06 Ligue 1 season and went on to spend four years at the club, making over 100 appearances and lifting the Intertoto Cup in 2008.

For the 2009/10 season, Mbia moved to Marseille in a £10 million move. Under Didier Deschamps, Marseille went on to win the title that season with Mbia playing a key role in the team, first as a defensive midfielder and then more as a centre back.

After three seasons at Marseille winning five domestic trophies, he moved to QPR ahead of the 2012/13 season with Joey Barton going the opposite way on-loan.

Mark Hughes brought the now 33-year-old into Loftus Road, but lost his job in November of that season - Harry Redknapp took over, but couldn’t prevent QPR from finishing bottom of the table.

Mbia had a mixed season with the club. He was sent off in just his fourth game for stamping on Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen - the most memorable moment from Mbia who played 29 games in the top-flight for QPR, failing to score and leaving the club on-loan the next season.

He joined Sevilla ahead of the 2013/14 La Liga season, the club eventually signed for the season after.

Making over 60 appearances for Sevilla in the next two seasons, Mbia won the Europa League both years under Unai Emery.

A highly decorated player at club and international level, Mbia’s career since spiralled.

Turkey was his next destination with Trabzonspor, but an uninspired stint there saw him make the move to China.

He signed for Hebei China Fortune where he spent two seasons before making an unexpected return to France with Toulouse last season.

Mbia made just three in Ligue 1 last season, and made the move back to China this season with Wuhan Zall.

A prominent figure at Zall, Mbia has helped his team to 6th in the Chinese Super League with a few games remaining.

Some players just don’t quite cut it in England, but Mbia can still reflect on a successful career and see out his playing days with a few more paydays in China.
