Blackburn Rovers have made a steady start to life back in the Sky Bet Championship, with Tony Mowbray’s side well placed to push on and compete for a place in the play-offs.

After nine fixtures, Rovers have 14 points, having won on three occasions and drawn on five.

Mowbray’s side have tasted defeat just once this season, which is a joint record in the Championship.

Amongst their key performers has been David Raya, who is the latest feature of our FLW Spotlight:

Raya has featured in all nine of Blackburn’s Championship fixtures this season. The goalkeeper has conceded 11 goals, although four of those came in the defeat to Bristol City.

The 23-year-old Spaniard has kept four clean sheets in those nine appearances, leaving him with a 44.4% clean sheet percentage.

Blackburn’s goalkeeper has a 69.4% save success, whilst he averages 29.6 passes per game.

Perhaps one area for improvement after a steady start is with the accuracy of those passes, which come at a success rate of just 37%.

The Verdict

Blackburn have been hugely impressive so far this season, with Mowbray’s side one on the rise.

The impressive performances of Raya have been key to Blackburn’s early success, with the goalkeeper proving to be so reliable as the last line of defence.

Raya’s numbers from the opening nine fixtures of the season are good, although his passing accuracy does leave a lot to be desired.

Whilst distribution is important for a goalkeeper, it won’t define Raya’s quality as a goalkeeper.

At 23, Raya is still young for a goalkeeper, with a full season seemingly ahead of him in the Championship.

He’s showing what a talent he is and will be looking to keep improving.
