Nottingham Forest right-back, Tendayi Darikwa, appears to be well down the pecking order at the City Ground and no injury is leaving him out of the picture right now.

Darikwa, 28, has made 63 appearances for Forest since joining the club back in the summer of 2017, but he's well out of favour in the East Midlands right now.

Chris Hughton is yet to use the right-back yet since arriving as the club's manager, whilst Sabri Lamouchi didn't favour him despite the loss of Matty Cash in the summer.

Quiz: Which club did Nottingham Forest sell each of these 20 players to?

In total, Darikwa hasn't featured at all in 2020/21, with his only involvement coming as an unused substitute in the defeats to Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bristol City.

When quizzed on the absence of Darikwa, Nottinghamshire Live journalist, Sarah Clapson, suggested he's out of picture not because of injury, but preference.

She wrote: "Darikwa just down the pecking order. With three right-backs at the club, was always going to be the case that someone was out of favour.

"Feel sorry for him because he had been in great form before his injury.

"Wouldn't be surprised if he heads elsewhere in January to get game time, even if it's on loan."

The injury in question came prior to Lamouchi kicking off the 2019/20 season, with Darikwa rupturing his ACL, which left him sidelined for a large part of the 2019/20 season.

Cyrus Christie is currently Hughton's first choice at right-back, with Carl Jenkinson providing cover.

The Verdict

Darikwa has had a rough spell after his injury and his fall down the pecking order at Forest hasn't been nice to watch.

He's a player that's more than capable at this level (particularly the level Forest are at), but Hughton has his favourites already, which is fair enough.

The fact that even though you can now name nine substitutes and Darikwa isn't getting a look-in maybe tells you all you need to know.

A January move might be best for all parties.

Fans aren't alien to his situation, but this does clear things up a little bit.
